Growing up, one of my favorite shows to watch was Candid Camera with Peter Funt. It was always so hilarious to watch people fall for the silliest jokes and tricks only for them to find out they were on a hidden camera TV show and being laughed at by all of America.
This past week, I have convinced myself that somewhere in my house and car, I am being filmed for an extended episode of Candid Camera and it’s only a matter of time before Peter Funt knocks on my door and says, “Smile Rae! You’re on Candid Camera!”. I shared last week about the unexplained gas leak in my house on Monday but let me give you an overview of how the rest of the week played out:
- Tuesday – Monkey stayed home from school because he was sick (so I had to call in sick to work) and my grandma had a mini stroke.
- Wednesday – I discovered a bolt in my tire as I was pulling out of my drive way. 4 1/2 hours later at the tire store, I ended up taking a personal day from work and PRAYED the rest of the week would get better.
- Thursday – I started getting sick Thursday evening…(at least I made it into work! That counts for something, right?)
- Friday – I had a terrible case of laryngitis so I had to practically whisper all 11 hours at work.
- Saturday – I missed Monkey’s pinewood derby race. Like something out of the movies. I walked in and my hubby goes, “You just missed his last race!” and then I watched as they started tearing everything down.
- Sunday – Still sick but starting to feel better! But my grandma had another mini stroke and is back in the hospital. 🙁
Last night I was feeling hopeful and positive that this was going to be a great week! I was putting this awful week behind me and looking forward to a 4 day work week, Boogie’s 1st birthday and her 1st birthday party this weekend! And then I woke up this morning and my right eye was swollen shut. Completely swollen and crusted shut. You guessed it….pink eye. I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. It seemed so unreal. I was just waiting for Peter Funt to jump out from behind my shower curtain! (Though I probably would’ve found that more terrifying at 6:30 in the morning.) So I text my husband in all caps that I have pink eye and that is how my morning and week began! It got even better when I stripped the bed to wash the sheets and discovered excessive moisture coming from the wall and bubbles all along the wall. So then I text and call my husband….again.
Looking back on this week and every single fun event that I have encountered, I have realized how much I bother my husband at work. Seriously. I’m sure his co-workers are like, “Dude, your wife needs to get it together!” But when a lot of things happen, whether big or small, I am calling him or texting him to call me because I don’t know what to do. I’m sure I am annoying (or maybe I just annoy myself) but I know he doesn’t care. He loves me and whether big or small to him, it’s big stuff for me that I know I can’t handle alone. Then it dawned on me this morning as I was folding laundry, just like how I go to my husband, God wants us to come to Him for everything. Whether it’s the smallest of things or the biggest problems we’ve ever dealt with, God wants us to come to Him so He can carry us through it. We aren’t meant to handle life on our own or carry our burdens by ourself. God is there and all we have to do is call on Him.
So instead of stressing about this stupid pink eye, I called the doctors, got an appointment for later on this afternoon (3:45 was the earliest they could get me in. Seriously? Ugh!) and am doing stuff around the house while Boogie naps. I put praise and worship music on and while cleaning the kitchen, I am talking with God on how I can find peace and answers in this mess of a week. There is a reason for all of this madness, all of these sick days and all of the punches I am rolling with. What are they? I may not find out for a while but at least I can draw in the comfort of Him and know He is ever faithful to bring me through the big and small stuff of life. <3
